‌‌‌‌Cork City Council is obliged under The Planning and Development Acts 2000 - 2014  to consult the general public, local interest groups, stakeholders and children (including groups or associations representing the interests of children) on a range of issues relating to the future planning and development of the city. Opportunities to make written observations are advertised / invited by way of statutory public notices in locally circulating print newspapers.

Notice of Variation No. 3 (Vacant Sites) of the Cork City Development Plan 2015 - 2021

Notice is hereby given that Cork City Council, in accordance with Section 13(2) of the Planning & Development Acts 2000 - 2015,  has adopted Variation No. 3 (Vacant Sites) of the Cork City Development Plan 2015 - 2021. 

The  variation relates to new requirements on Planning Authorities, introduced by the Urban Regeneration and Housing Act 2015, to establish a register of vacant sites and to make provision for a vacant site levy.

Copies of the variation may be inspected at all City libraries and the following locations.

Grants and Living City Initiative

Grant schemes are run by the Strategic Planning and Economic Development Directorate (often in partnership with Government Departments / Agencies) to contribute to the regeneration and enhancement of Cork’s built heritage and City Centre.

On Tuesday 5th of May 2015, Cork City Council announced details of the Living City Initiative for Cork City being run by its Strategic Planning and Economic Development Directorate.

Grant Schemes and Tax Incentives in Cork City








In order to ensure that development in Cork City is both orderly and of a high standard part of the role of the Planning Directorate is to make sure that development has the necessary permissions under the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended) and the Planning and Development Regulations 2001 (as amended). Unauthorised development relates to developments and/or uses that are in breach of the planning laws. The role of ensuring that all development has the necessary permissions is also known as Planning Enforcement.

A development is unauthorised when :-

  • Planning permission is required and has not been obtained.
  • Planning permission was granted but the development is not being carried out in accordance with the plans lodged or conditions of the planning permission granted.
  • The development It does not comply with all the conditions and limitations to qualify a development as exempt.
